Maharagama Project, Clinic Days: 27 - 29

Embark’s sterilisation and vaccination programme in Maharagama continued with Best Care Animal and the office of the Medical Officer of Health, Maharagama (MOH).

The last 3 clinic days covered the Wattegedara GS division, vaccinating 304 dogs against the spread of rabies. Teams administered vaccinations from 12 stations on day 1, ensuring that all owned and community dogs in the area were brought in for vaccination. Day 2 and 3 were dedicated to meticulous and systematic road by road catching and vaccination of stray and roaming dogs via a mobile vaccination unit. This ensures the entirety of the GS division is covered.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of teams of veterinarians, handlers and technicians from Blue Paw Trust (BPT) and Best Care Animal Hospital; together with the support of the local PHIs, MOH and the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS), the Maharagama Project has now vaccinated more almost 3,0000 dogs and has sterilised more than 330.

Maharagama campaign targets:
Duration: 03 years (Nov 2011 – Dec 2014)
Clinics: 304 mobile clinic days
Sterilisations: 5,000+ female sterilisations
Vaccinations: 35,000+ anti-rabies vaccinations
Total projected cost: Rs. 23 million
