How many of us have witnessed road accidents where the victims have been street dogs? How many of us have chosen to 'not get involved' simply because 'it is non of our business'? It is an inconvenience? Plus, we really don't know how to help?.
When Embark received this emergency call on the 3rd of April 2010 from the Fowzie Maternity Clinic in Grandpass, the team was grateful to the nurse for taking the trouble to pass on information about a street dog in need of urgent medical attention. Arriving on location the Embark Team members wasted no time.
It appeared that the dog's leg had either been broken in an accident or as result of a severe beating three months ago and the limb had dropped off about a month and a half ago.
Having transported the ailing dog to safety, the Embark Team began the second phase of the rescue operation. The protruding bone had to be taken out and the infection treated.
The operation was carried out the very next day. Even with the risk from infected blood, this rescued dog had his day as things went smoothly. At hand to offer some doggy support was an Assistant's donor dog who gave blood during surgery!
The amazing thing about rescues like this one is the satisfaction of knowing that by getting involved even in a small way we can set in motion a whole lot of good. A simple telephone call helped put an end to agonizing pain and gave a helpless street pooch another chance at life.
