Bonding is a process, a process you have to continuously work at. It's not a one off affair. The bond with your dog begins and is built over the first few weeks to months of ownership. However, maintaining the bond is a lifelong commitment. Remember that while you are at work, out with friends, or running errands, your dog is usually just waiting for you to come home.
When you get a dog, it is not like getting a rental car. When your dog misbehaves, you can't just trade him in. If he gets sick, it is your job to help him get well. If circumstances in your home environment change, you must consider the toll it will take on your dog and make every effort to help him along.
Among companion animals, dogs are unmatched in their devotion, loyalty and friendship to mankind. Anyone who has ever loved a dog can attest that it's an investment with a hundred-fold return. The excitement your dog shows when you come home, the wagging tail at the sound of the leash being taken from its hook, the delight in the tossing of a tennis ball, and the head nestled in your lap-those are only some of the rewards of being a dog owner.
Owning a dog is not just a privilege-it's a responsibility. These animals depend on us for the basics - food and shelter, but deserve much more. If you are considering taking a dog into your life, you need to think seriously about the commitment that dog ownership entails. If you already have a dog, you need to consider if you are fulfilling all your obligations as its owner.
On August 2009, Embark Field Team came across another sad story which pierced the hearts of all and made most of the team members experience an adrenaline rush through their hearts. For many of us, our keen interest was to get involved with the community dogs for the betterment of their lives. But from the day we saw the lives of six Great Dane dogs, we knew we had to do something which would actually stop back yard breeders from their personal interests.
We did act and even though we couldn't save all, Pegi the last Great Dane from the six pups was one and now lives with a good family...
Embark has come across many inquiries concerning pet shops which are suffering from animal welfare issues and are notorious for the poor treatment of pets. With surveys and research done on legislation, Embark understands that this needs to come to an end. And for all poor pet breeders, we will stand for our friends in need.
Stay tuned for more updates on Saving the Injured..
So, Paw onwards with a commitment for the long haul.
